Nunavut

Nunavut is the newest, largest, and northernmost territory of Canada. It was separated officially from the Northwest Territories on April 1, 1999. Nunavut comprises a major portion of Northern Canada, and most of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.

Arviat is a fly-in community of approximately 2,800 people, predominantly Inuit, located on the western shore of Hudson Bay in the Kivalliq Region of Nunavut. A thriving cultural centre, it is also home to the Arviat Wellness Centre.

This page will continue to grow as Suzanne gathers more knowledge about eating locally in Nunavut.

LOCAL PRODUCERS

Arviat is a sharing community. There are no commercial local producers. Instead, food that is harvested from the land, hunted, and grown is shared.

Arviat has also initiated a community greenhouse project.
