Nunavut is the newest, largest, and northernmost territory of Canada. It was separated officially from the Northwest Territories on April 1, 1999. Nunavut comprises a major portion of Northern Canada, and most of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.
Arviat is a fly-in community of approximately 2,800 people, predominantly Inuit, located on the western shore of Hudson Bay in the Kivalliq Region of Nunavut. A thriving cultural centre, it is also home to the Arviat Wellness Centre.
This page will continue to grow as Suzanne gathers more knowledge about eating locally in Nunavut.
Arviat is a sharing community. There are no commercial local producers. Instead, food that is harvested from the land, hunted, and grown is shared.
Arviat has also initiated a community greenhouse project.
